MSUM Women Set for Road Weekend at Beavers and Golden Eagles

The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team heads to Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contests this week. The Dragons will face Bemidji State at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and then follow with a game at Minnesota Crookston at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The Dragons are 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the NSIC. They lost at UMary, 82-49 on Dec. 2 before beating Minot State, 67-43 on Saturday.

MSUM and Bemidji State will meet for 113th time with the Dragons leading the series 71-41. Bemidji State swept the Dragons last year in Bemidji. The Dragons hold a 41-8 series lead against Minnesota Crookston after sweeping the Golden Eagles last year.

Junior forward Peyton Boom leads the team in points per game with 14.3, followed by freshman guard Natalie Jens with 11.9.

Boom also leads the team in rebounds per game with 6.8. Junior Natalie Steichen leads the team in assists per game with 3.7.

Karla Nelson is in her 22nd season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead.   She is the second-longest tenured women's coach in the NSIC.

About Bemidji State

The Beavers are 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference after beating Minnesota Crookston, 86-80 on Tuesday in Crookston. Rachael Heittola averages 15.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game for Bemidji State while Trinity Yoder averages 11.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while leading at 4.2 assists per game. Bemidji State scores 67.0 points per game and allows 61.2. Chelsea DeVille is in her seventh season as the Bemidji State head coach.

About Minnesota Crookston

The Golden Eagles are 1-8 overall and 0-3 in the NSIC after losing at home to Bemidji State, 86-80 on Tuesday night. The Golden Eagles do not have a player averaging in double figures, but are led by Kylie Post at 9.9 points per game and Bren Fox and Abi Fraaza at 9.0 points per game apiece. Fox leads at 6.8 rebounds per game while Emma Carpenter averages 2.8 assists per game.  UMC averages 52.9 points per game and allows 62.2.  Mike Roysland is in his 16th season as the UMC head coach.
