MSUM Women to Battle Vikings Thursday in NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament

The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/Sanford Health Tournament play on Thursday against Augustana. The quarterfinal matchup begins at 1 p.m. at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Dragons finished the regular season 7-5 while the Vikings finished 11-4 and won the NSIC South. The winner of Thursday's game will face the winner of the St. Cloud State vs. Minnesota State-Mankato game.

SERIES HISTORY...

Augustana leads the all-time series with MSUM 18-12. The teams met twice to open the season in Sioux Falls in non-division games and split.  Augustana won the first game 83-65 thanks to 20 points from Aislinn Duffy while MSUM won the second 71-66 with Nicole Brown leading the way with a career-high 17 points and 15 rebounds.

ABOUT MSUM...

The Dragons (7-5) went 1-1 at home to close the regular season, beating Northern State 63-51 at Friday before falling to the Wolves 63-62 on Saturday. 

Junior forward Peyton Boom averages 13.7 points and 5.7 rebounds to lead the Dragons in both categories. Sophomore Mariah McKeever averages 11.4 points per game while senior guard Sarah Jacobson averages 10.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Junior guard Natalie Steichen leads at 3.0 assists per game. 

MSUM scores 70.8 points per game and allows 70.0. The Dragons outrebound their foes 39.2-32.8. 

Karla Nelson is in her 21st season as the MSUM head coach with a record of 376-213. 

ABOUT AUGUSTANA

The Vikings enter Thursday's game on a four-game winning streak. They swept Wayne State on the road last weekend, 87-73 and 87-76. 

Four Vikings average in double figures: Izzy Van Veldhuizen (14.3), Lauren Sees (13.9), Duffy (13.7) and Hannah Mitby (12.7). Duffy leads at 6.6 rebounds per game while Mitby averages 3.5 assists.

Dave Krauth, the longest-tenured women's head coach in the NSIC, is in his 32nd season at Augie with a record of 656-284 at the school.
