The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team opens the NCAA Central Region Tournament on Saturday vs. Wayne State. Game time is 6 p.m. at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, S.D.
The winner of Saturday's game will meet the top-seeded Northern State Wolves on Sunday.
MSUM is 10-4 on the season while Wayne State is 11-6.

THE SERIES
MSUM and Wayne State have not met this season. They were scheduled to meet in the semifinals of the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament on Feb. 27 but Wayne State was unable to compete because of COVID-19 protocols. Wayne State leads the all-time series 20-13 although the Dragons have won 10 meetings in a row in the series.Â
ABOUT MSUM...
The Dragons finished runner-up at the NSIC tournament. They beat Minnesota State, 73-61 in double-overtime on Feb. 26 before falling to Northern State, 78-57 in the championship game two days later. MSUM junior Gavin Baumgartner was named to the all-tournament team.
MSUM is led in scoring by junior guard Lorenzo McGhee was 14.0 points per game while junior guard Gavin Baumgartner averages 12.9. Junior guard Bryce Irsfeld averages 11.4 points per game while sophomore forward Dane Zimmer averages 11.1 while senior Gatdoar Kueth averages 10.4 points per game. Zimmer leads at 5.4 rebounds per game. Irsfeld leads at 3.3 assists per game.Â
Chad Walthall is in his 11th season as the MSUM head coach with a record of 219-106.Â

WAYNE STATE
The Wildcats, the NSIC South Division Champions, are led by NSIC South Player of the Year Jordan Janssen, who averages 16.1 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. He is shooting 52.4 percent from the field. Nate Mohr averages 12.5 points per game while Alec Millender averages 10.6. Janssen leads at 3.5 assists per game as well.
Jeff Kaminsky is in his fifth season as the Wayne State head coach with a record of 66-74 at the school.
