Dragon Volleyball Opens NSIC Play This Week

The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Friday at Upper Iowa.  The match begins at 6 p.m. in Fayette, Iowa. 

On Saturday, the Dragons travel to Winona State to face the Warriors at 4 p.m.  

On Tuesday, the Dragons will make their 2021 home debut at 6 p.m. against NSIC foe Minot STate. 

MSUM started the season 0-8 after going 0-4 at the Northern State Classic last weekend. Junior outside hitter Amanda Carlson leads the Dragons in kills with 107, followed by sophomore right-side hitter Teeya Doppler with 46. Freshman setter Halle Erickson leads the team in assists with 104. 

Senior libero Sarah Petrbok leads with 145 digs while junior Elise Bakke and freshman Lexi Pew have 25 blocks each.

Bob Jones is in his first year as the MSUM head coach. 

About Upper Iowa

Upper Iowa has started their season 6-2 after a loss to Northwest Missouri State University last week. Sophomore Madelyn Rettler leads the team in kills with 103, followed by senior Maggie Streightiff with 76 kills. Sophomore Nicole Pozorski leads the team in assists with 270. Aaron Nelson enters his 11th season as Head coach at Upper Iowa.  

About Winona State

Winona State has started the season 8-0 after a win over the University of Indianapolis last week. Senior Megan Flom leads the team in kills with 107, followed by Sidney Paulson with 74.  Senior Bre Maloney leads the team in assists with 278. Joe Getzin is entering his eighth year as head coach at Winona State.   

About Minot State

Minot State has started its season 0-4 after the team's most recent loss to William Jewell College. Freshman Alexandra Koontz leads the team in kills with 37, followed by senior Roxy King with 27 kills. Senior Sophia Peterson leads the team in assists with 86. Dana Cordova-Jacobson enters her fifth year as head coach at Minot State
