ABERDEEN, S.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team was edged by Nebraska-Kearney, 1-0 in the regular season opener for both teams on Thursday in Aberdeen, S.D.
MSUM fell to 0-1 on the season while UNK improved to 1-0.
The Dragons had a 20-9 edge in shots, including 10-4 in shots on goal, but couldn't break through for the needed tying goal.
"The team played well, we just could not find the back of the net," MSUM head coach Christie Kopietz said.
Senior forward Anna Steadland had six shots, including three on goal, for MSUM. Freshman defender Emma Caito had two shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Kayleigh Sedlacek had three saves in the contest for the Dragons.
MSUM continues nonconference play on Sept. 9 at Montana State Billings.
