BILLINGS, Mont. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team fell in a pair of matches on Saturday at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Billings, Mont. MSUM lost to Montana State-Billings, 25-14, 25-22, 24-26, 25-20 and then fell to South Dakota Mines, 25-21, 25-18, 25-10 to wrap up the weekend.
MSUM fell to 0-4 on the nonconference season.
Senior outside hitter Amanda Carlson had 16 kills against MSUB while sophomore right side hitter Teeya Doppler had 10 and freshman middle blocker Jadyn Feist had nine. Freshman setter Jordan Hein had 22 assists while freshman setter Kelly Klees had 13.
Carlson and Feist led with 17 digs apiece while senior libero Sarah Petrbok had 14. Freshman middle blocker Summer Salettel had three block assists and a solo block. Petrbok led with three service aces.
MSUM hit .101 for the match and committed 33 hitting errors. MSUB hit .242 with only 18 errors.
After losing the first two sets, MSUM came back with a good third set. With the set tied at 24-24 Doppler recorded a kill followed by an attack error by MSUB gave the Dragons the win.
MSUB won the final set to complete the four-set victory.
Against South Dakota Mines, MSUM hit just .017 with 25 errors compared to 23 kills.
Doppler and Carlson led MSUM with five kills each, while freshman hitter Lexi Pew and Salettel had four each. Hein had 10 set assists while Klees had seven.
Petrbok had 13 digs while Feist had 11 and Carlson 10. Freshman middle blocker Abby Thompson had two solo blocks and four assists.
MSUM will play at the Northern State tournament starting next Thursday against South Dakota Mines.
