The Minnesota State University State volleyball team will travel to Aberdeen, S.D. this week to participate in the Northern State Tournament. The Dragons will play four non-conference matches as they tune up for Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
Their opponents include South Dakota Mines on Thursday at 3 p.m., Augustana University on Friday at 9 a.m., Northern State on Friday at 7 p.m., and New Mexico Highlands on Saturday at 9 a.m. Â
The Dragons have started their season 0-4, losing four matches at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Montana last weekend.Â
Junior outside hitter Amanda Carlson leads the Dragons with 52 kills followed by sophomore right side hitter Teeya Doppler with 26 kills.Â
Senior libero Sarah Petrbok has 65 digs while Carlson has 47 and freshman Jadyn Feist has 44. Freshman Jordan Hein leads with 59 set assists while freshman Halle Erickson has 44.
Freshmen Abby Thompson and Summer Salettel as well as junior Elise Bakke lead the Dragons in blocks with two each. Petrbok leads with eight service aces.
The Dragons open NSIC play on September 17th against Upper Iowa in Fayette, Iowa. Their home opener is September 21st against Minot State. Â
About South Dakota MinesÂ
South Dakota Mines has started this season 3-1. Freshman Emma Grimm leads the team with 34 kills, followed closely by junior Victoria Zagorski with 33 kills. Sophomore Kiley Metzger leads the team with 78 set assists, followed by senior Shyann Bastian with 63. Lauren Torvi Prochazka is in her third season as the South Dakota Mines head coach.Â
About Augustana UniversityÂ
Augustana has started this season 2-2. Senior Payton Rosendahl leads the team with 35 kills, followed closely by junior Maddy Guetter with 34 kills and sophomore Callie Hohenhaus with 33 kills. Senior Avery Thorson is responsible for 163 of the team's 197 set assists. Jennifer Jacobs enters her fifth season as head coach at Augustana University. Â
About Northern State UniversityÂ
Northern State has started this season 2-2. Freshman Natalie Szybinska leads the team with 49 kills, followed closely by senior Sally Gaul with 48 kills and junior Taylor Buckley with 41 kills. Junior Keri Walker is responsible for 176 of the team's 191 set assists. Brett Aldridge enters his 11th years as head coach at Northern State University. Â
About New Mexico Highlands Â
New Mexico Highlands has started this season 1-3. Junior Lisi Langi leads the team with 14 kills, followed closely by junior Camryn Nelson with 13 kills and senior Stacy Johnson with 11 kills. Junior Soleil Gandara is responsible for 47 of the team's 53 set assists. Tom Duke is returning to his head coach position at NMHU in 2021 after departing in 2007. Â
