The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team is back in action this week at home with a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games. MSUM will face Winona State at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in Sioux Falls and then face No. 13 Upper Iowa at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
MSUM is 9-8 overall and 4-4 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference after losing a tough double-overtime 83-80 contest at Northern State on Jan. 3. Junior guard Lorenzo McGhee had 19 points in the losing effort.
The Dragons' last four games have been cancelled because of Covid-19 protocols.
Junior guard Gavin Baumgartner leads the team in points per game with 12.2, followed by junior guard Bryce Irsfeld and McGhee at 10.6. Â Sophomore forward Dane Zimmer leads at 7.9 rebounds per game while Baumgartner also leads the team in assists per game with 3.3.
Freshman guard Jacob Beeninga has 26 steals while senior center Jesse Bergh had 12 blocks.
MSUM scores 80.4 points per game and allows 74.1.
Chad Walthall is in his 12th season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead.

The Warriors are 10-5 on the season and 6-4 in the NSIC after a loss to Minnesota Duluth and a victory over St. Cloud last weekend. Junior guard Alec Rosner leads the team in points per game with 17.4. Senior Devin Whitelow leads the team in assists per game with 3.8. Junior Luke Martens leads the team in rebounds per game with 8.1. Todd Eisner is in his seventh year as head coach at Winona State.
About No. 13 Upper Iowa
The Peacocks are 16-2 on the season and 10-2 in the NSIC after victories over St. Cloud and No. 5 Minnesota Duluth last weekend. Senior Jareese Williams leads the team in points per game with 18.8, followed closely by Graduate Student Joe Smoldt with 17.5. Sophomore Nick Reid leads the team in rebounds per game with 5.8, followed closely by Jareese Williams with 5.6. Brooks McKowen is in his ninth year as head coach at Upper Iowa. Â
