Dragons Close 2022 Season With Loss At Northern State

ABERDEEN, S.D. -- The Dragon soccer team closed out the 2022 season with a 3-0 loss to Northern State on the road this evening.

The first half turned out to be a defensive battle between the two NSIC foes. The Wolves were able to register six total shots in the first 45 minutes. However, only one of those ended up being a shot on goal with a late Mia Zagorski shot landing in the hands of Dragon goalkeeper Simone Lewald. On the other side, MSUM was able to register two shots with Mckenzie Ickert getting a shot on goal in the 10th minute. A half that saw plenty of offense ended up in scoreless tie.

Both teams continued to be aggressive at the net in the second half. Northern State was able to strike first in the 63rd minute on a Hannah Smith penalty kick goal. The Dragons legged out four shots in the half with Jensen Seidel getting a shot on goal to the bottom right corner. Unfortunately, Northern State keeper Alexus Townsend was able to make the save and keep the game at 1-0.

The latter stages of the match were controlled by the Wolves, who were able to tack on two goals in the final 10 minutes of play. Calista Kocmick netted a score in the 83rd minute while Megan Fastenau scored just over 30 seconds later. In the end, the Wolves won the match 3-0 over the Dragons.

Lilly Johnson led the Dragons in total shots with two in 47 minutes of play. The Dragons opted to play both Quinn Carter and Simone Lewald at goalkeeper. Together, the duo saved three shots while each faced six shots.

MSUM has now concluded its 2022 season with a record of 2-11-3 and a 2-10-3 ledger in the NSIC.
