Dragon Women's Soccer Erases Early Deficit, Tops SMSU 3-1

MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team rallied from an early 1-0 deficit with three straight goals in a 3-1 win over Southwest Minnesota State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Friday in Moorhead, Minn.

MSUM improved to 2-7-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the NSIC while SMSU fell to 1-5-6 overall and 1-5-3 in the league.

"It was a really fantastic comeback win," MSUM head coach Christie Kopietz said.

Senior midfielder Jacie Osier, senior forward Hallemae Nottage and freshman forward Jensen Seidel scored goals for MSUM while senior midfielder Jalyn Bauer and junior defender Allison Tharp added assists.

Freshman goalkeeper Quinn Carter had seven saves for the Dragons.

SMSU scored the first goal just 3:23 into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Late in the first half, at the 42:57 mark, Osier scored her first goal of the season with an assist from Bauer to tie the game at 1-1.

At the 60:36 mark, Nottage scored her first goal of the season off of an assist from Tharp to put MSUM up 2-1. Seidel's team-best fourth goal of the season added to the Dragon lead, making 3-1 with less than five minutes left.

MSUM hosts the University of Sioux Falls on Sunday at noon.
