FULL NSIC RELEASE
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The NSIC has announced its yearly All-Conference football selections and award winners. Redshirt freshman wide receiver
Gage Florence, freshman quarterback
Jack Strand and sophomore defensive back/linebacker
Marcus Gulley have all been named to the NSIC North Division All-Conference Second Team. Florence was also named the NSIC's Offensive Newcomer of the Year.
Florence had a record-breaking season for the Dragons in 2022. The redshirt freshman caught 100 passes, a school record, for 996 yards and six touchdowns. This included a season-long of 70 yards. In MSUM's win over Mary on October 22, Florence caught 21 passes, which broke his own school record of 16 set earlier in the season against Minnesota Duluth. His 21 receptions became a new NSIC record and was two receptions shy of tying the NCAA record. For his efforts, Florence was named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week on October 24. The Sawyer, N.D., native finished the year second in all of Division II football in receptions per game (9.1).
Strand played in just nine of MSUM's 11 games this season, but was able to complete 230 passes in 2022. Despite not playing in two games, that mark was just 27 completions short of the school record. However, Strand broke MSUM's school record for completions in a game after completing 45 passes against Mary on October 22. The true freshman threw for 2,280 yards and 16 passing touchdowns with a 64.6 completion percentage. Strand was also able to score a rushing touchdown for the Dragons as well.
Gulley became a stalwart for MSUM at the Sam linebacker position. The sophomore was second on the team in total tackles (81) and solo tackles (54). The West Fargo native made nine tackles behind the line of scrimmage including a team-high four sacks. Gulley finished 2022 with two pass breakups, an interception and a fumble recovery as well in 11 games.
