MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSUM nailed 12 three-pointers and tallied triple digits in a 101-72 drubbing of Minnesota Crookston inside Nemzek Fieldhouse. It is the sixth consecutive win for the Dragons.
A night after the long range shot was not falling for the Dragons,
Tim Bergstraser's club livened the Nemzek crowd early with four made three-pointers in less than four minutes.
Jacob Beeninga,
Jaden Stanley-Williams and
Lorenzo McGhee all connected from long range early in the first half to give MSUM an eight-point lead. Crookston would hang around in the first half, but would never take the lead at any point in the first half. The Golden Eagles shot an impressive 53.3 percent in the first 10 minutes, but still trailed by eight points to MSUM.
Beeninga would score all 13 of his points in the first half as the Dragons struggled to stop an athletic Minnesota Crookston team. The sophomore guard made four three-pointers in the first half and was a huge reason why MSUM was able to keep their lead. McGhee added 11 points in the half as the Dragons led 47-34 at the break.
After scoring only three points in the first half,
Jaden Stanley-Williams helped push the Dragons to a comfortable lead to start the second half. The senior scored seven points in five minutes to begin the half, pushing the MSUM lead to 23 points. Stanley-Williams would finish with 13 points, 10 of those points coming in the second half. That coupled with some dagger threes from
Gavin Baumgartner, helped the Dragons cruise in the second half.
MSUM scored 101 points to Crookston's 75 with youngsters
Jordan Johnson,
Chance Fazio and
Owen Hektner providing some late scoring for the Dragons. The last time MSUM scored over 100 points was on November 16, 2021, where they dropped a school record 136 points on Crown College. For the game, MSUM shot 50 percent from the field and hit 12 three-pointers at a 41.4 percent clip.
The win is MSUM's sixth consecutive victory and fourth straight win by 20 or more points.
