SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- In a hard-fought effort that fell short, MSUM wrestling dropped a road dual to Augustana 31-15. The Dragons won three matches over the Vikings in the dual.

Thomas Carrillo got the Dragons started with a 6-5 decision win at 133 pounds. Carrillo got the victory over Augustana's John Babineau thanks in part to a late challenge from head coach Kris Nelson. The challenge helped change the score in Carrillo's favor after Babineau secured a late takedown that would have given him the win. That decision was overturned as Carrillo's hand was eventually raised.

The performance of Jacob Davis at 149 pounds helped give MSUM momentum in the middle weights. Staring down a major decision loss, Davis battled against Augustana's Kyle Boeke. At one point, the junior Davis fell behind 12-2 to Boeke before a monster third period pin lifted Davis to victory. The Thief River Falls, Minn., native got Boeke's shoulders on the mat at 5:43 to pull the score to 10-9 in favor of the Vikings.

In his first dual action of the season, Airin Spell built on his successful Dragon Open performance, picking up an injury default win to close the dual for MSUM. The two teams had three extra matches after the dual at 141, 149 and 184 pounds. Gunnar Mogen highlighted the extra matches with a pinfall victory over Connor Simonds at 3:53.

The Dragons will travel to Marshall, Minn., tonight in advance of their dual with Southwest Minnesota State tomorrow. MSUM is set to compete against the Mustangs at 3 p.m.
