The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team will finish the 2021-2022 regular season by hosting UMary on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. then traveling to face Minot State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. this weekend.
The Dragons are locked in a battle with Northern State and Minot State for second in the NSIC North. The top two seeds in each division receive a bye in the opening round of the NSIC tournament.
MSUM lost to UMary, 80-79 in December and also lost to Minot State, 88-74 at home in December.
The Dragons are 14-11 on the season and 9-7 in the NSIC after defeating Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston last weekend to run their winning streak to three games.
Junior guard Lorenzo McGhee leads the team in points per game with 12.8, followed closely by junior Gavin Baumgartner with 12.5 points per game.
Sophomore Dane Zimmer leads the team in rebounds per game with 7.2. Baumgartner leads at 3.3 assists per game while freshman guard Jacob Beeninga leads at 1.4 steals per game.
Chad Walthall is in his 12th season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
About UMary
The Marauders are 10-14 on the season and 9-10 in the NSIC after defeating then -No. 6 Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State last weekend. Junior Kai Huntsberry leads the team in points per game with 18.5. Huntsberry also leads the team in assists per game with 4.4. Junior Kam Warrens leads the team in rebounds per game with 6.2. Jack Nelson is in his first season as head coach at UMary.
About Minot State
The Beavers are 15-7 on the season and 9-7 in the NSIC after defeating St. Cloud State and No. 6 ranked Minnesota Duluth last weekend. Senior Melvin Newbern leads the team in points per game with 15, followed closely by Senior Cam'ron Dunfee with 13 points per game. Senior Max Cody leads the team in assists per game with 6.3. Newbern also leads the team in rebounds per game with 9.1. Matt Murken is in his tenth season as head coach at Minot State.
