Big Night from McGhee Helps Dragon Men Outlast St. Cloud State, 69-67

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – A big night from junior guard Lorenzo McGhee helped the Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team outlast St. Cloud State, 69-67 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday in St. Cloud, Minn.
 
MSUM is now 12-11 overall and 7-7 in the NSIC while St. Cloud State fell to 9-14 overall and 5-10 in the NSIC.
 
McGhee scored a season-high 28 points on 12-of-17 shooting. He was 4-of-8 from three-point range. He also added eight rebounds. Junior forward Jaden Stanley-Williams had 12 points, while sophomore forward Dane Zimmer had 15 rebounds to go with eight points.
 
MSUM shot 40.9 percent (27-of-66) for the game compared to 43.4 percent (23-of-53) for the Huskies. The Dragons dominated the glass, 49-27, and had 18 offensive rebounds.
 
The Dragons were down 15-6 just over seven minutes into the game but came back to tie the game at halftime at 29-29.  McGhee had 14 first-half points for MSUM.
 
St. Cloud State scored the first points of the second half but MSUM answered with a 16-6 run to build a 45-37 lead with 15:42 left. McGhee had six points during the run while freshman guard Gabe Myren and Zimmer had four points each.
 
MSUM led the rest of the way, weathering several St. Cloud State comeback attempts.
 
The Huskies got within 69-67 with five seconds left, and after an MSUM turnover, had a three-pointer for the win that didn't fall, and the Dragons had survived with a two-point win to complete a season sweep of the Huskies.
 
Myren and junior guard Bryce Irsfeld each had nine points for MSUM.
 
MSUM will play three of its final four games at home, starting on Feb. 11 against Minnesota Crookston.
