MSUM Track and Field Claims 5 Victories at Bison Open

FARGO, N.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead track and field teams picked up five wins at the Bison Open, which was hosted by North Dakota State on Saturday.
 
Sophomore Braxton Bruer won the men's 800 in 1:53.65, which is the best time in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this season.  After being converted for track size, that time is an NCAA qualifying time.
 
Sophomore Travis Joseph tied his season-best with a win in the men's high jump, clearing a high of 7-0 1/2. That tied a school record and is the best jump in the NSIC this season.  Joseph is tied for second in the nation in the high jump. Senior Chris Cook was second at 6-9 1/2 which is 12th-best in Division II this season.

Senior Drew Mears won the 5,000 meter run with a meet record time of 15:41.32. Junior Ty Dawkins was third in the 400 in 49.44 which is the fastest time in the NSIC this season.
 
Sophomore Ashley Hokanson won the women's pole vault at 12-6, which was a season-best and the best mark in the NSIC this season. That ranks her in the top 25 in the nation.
 
Junior Robynn Curry won the women's 400 meter dash in 58.18 which is the fifth-best time in the NSIC this season.
 
Junior Shyrone Kemp was third in the long jump at 23-5 1/2. Senior Shaquiel Higgs was fourth in the 200 in 22.47, fifth in the 60 at 7.06. MSUM's 4x400 relay, consisting of Dawkins, Oduong, MacLennan and Bruer, was third in 3:22.75.
 
Sophomore Adnew Stueven was third in the mile at 4:18.69, which was a personal best and fourth-best in the NSIC this season with senior Nadir Yusuf fifth in 4:21.86.
 
Senior Rachel Schumacher was third in the high jump with an effort of 5-4 1/2. Sophomore Payton Lane ran a 10:31.60 in the 3,000 meters which was a personal-best. Freshman Grace Dorsher was third in the 5,000-meter run in 19:38.07
 
MSUM's next scheduled event is at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic on Feb. 11.
