Dragon Softball Swept by No. 13 Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Minneosta State University Moorhead softball team was swept by No. 13-ranked Augustana, 22-1 snd 10-1 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader on Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
 
In the opener, Augustana hit four home runs and recorded seven extra-base hits overall on its way to the win.
 
Freshman third baseman Avery Steffen was 2-for-3 with a double for the Dragons while freshman right fielder Eliyah McCarthy was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Freshman shortstop Annika Norman was 1-for-2. Freshman catcher Piper McKibbin had an RBI.
 
Sophomore Reece Dahl took the loss, giving up 12 earned runs in 2.2 innings. She walked eight and struck out two. Freshman Emma Abbott gave up 10 earned runs in 2.1 innings, walking seven and striking out none.
 
The Vikings added three more homers in the Game 2 to record the win.
 
Steffen gave up eight runs, six earned, in six innings. She struck out five and walked none. Sophomore Evey Evans gave up two earned runs in one inning with one strikeout.
 
McKibbin hit her first collegiate home run to account for the Dragons' lone run. Junior left fielder Kiley Washnieski was 1-for-2 with a double. Senior center fielder Jordey Smith was 1-for-3.
 
The Dragons are scheduled to host Minnesota Duluth at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
