BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Minnesota State University Moorhead freshman Macie Wieman has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week in volleyball, the league announced on Monday. It is the first weekly honor of Wieman's Dragon career.
A defensive specialist/libero from Sparta, Wis., Wieman averaged an NSIC-best 5.13 digs per set in the Dragons' home wins over Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State last weekend.
She had 19 digs in the Dragons' four-set win over Minnesota Crookston on Friday and added 17 in a sweep of Bemidji State on Saturday. IN her last four matches Wieman has recorded 74 digs and is averaging 5.7 digs per set.
Wieman is the first MSUM player to earn the NSIC Player of the Week honors in volleyball since Sept. 24, 2018 when Monica Vega earned the defensive player of the week award.
