TAMPA, Fla. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team fell to the University of Tampa, 3-0 in nonconference play on Sunday in Tampa, Fla. The game was the season opener for the Dragons.
MSUM fell to 0-1 while Tampa improved to 3-1.
"The team had to overcome a very challenging set of circumstances," MSUM head coach Christie Kopietz said. "They gave all they had to give. I am very proud of their resiliency and fighting spirit."
Tampa had a 14-7 edge in shots. Allison Tharp, Jensen Seidel and Lilly Johnson each had two shots for the Dragons while Mckenzie Ickert had one.
Simone Lewald had one save for MSUM, who trailed 1-0 at halftime.
The Dragons open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Friday at Minnesota Crookston in a battle for the Highway 75 Rivalry Rock.
