MOORHEAD, Minn. -- In a bout that felt like the postseason, the MSU Moorhead men's basketball team saw their win streak snapped at 10 games at the hands of rival Northern State. The Wolves defeated the Dragons 72-71 in a match-up between the top two teams in the NSIC.
The Skinny
Both teams went back and forth for almost the entirity of this contest. Northern State's largest lead came with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half. The Wolves led 27-20 before MSUMÂ would rally before the half to take a 36-35 lead into the locker room.
Jaden Stanley-Williams scored 16 huge points for the Dragons including four made three-pointers. MSUM held an eight point lead midway through the second half before Northern State battled back into the contest.
Behind Jacksen Moni's 26 points, the Wolves would have an opportunity to take the lead late in the game as senior Sam Masten drove into the lane and scored a lay-up with 14 seconds remaining. The Dragons were unable to answer Masten's late basket and Northern State came out with a 72-71 win, their second win over MSUM this season. The loss snaps MSUM's 10-game win streak, which was the longest win streak since 2015-16. The Dragons had four players score in double figures in the loss.Â
