Stark, Johnson Lead MSUM at Dragon Invite

WEST FARGO, N.D. -- Lacie Stark and Madelynn Johnson each picked up event wins at the MSUM-hosted Dragon Invite this weekend. Friday's session was held inside Nemzek Pool with Saturday's competition commencing inside Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo.

The Dragons finished fourth as a team with 598 team points. Northern State won the Dragon Invite with 1065.5 team points. 

Lacie Stark won the 50-yard backstroke with a finals time 28.60. Stark swam a faster preliminary time of 28 seconds, but still won the event's final by nearly fourth-tenths of a second. Stark took sixth in the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:03.83. 

Johnson took home the 200-yard breatstroke crown on Friday thanks to a 2:31.04 finals time and Johnson swam an even faster 2:26.11 as a seed time. In the seeding heats, Johnson was more than three seconds faster than her opponents. She won the finals heat by nearly two seconds. Johnson also took third in the 100-yard breastroke with a 1:06.38 seed time and a 1:10.72 finals time. The freshman also placed fifth in the 50-yard breatstroke.

Arina Bratamidjaja took home fourth place in the 1000-yard freestyle, swimming a 11:39.9 as a seed time and a 11:48.29 in the finals. Taylor Cook also took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in a 1:59.54 seed time and a 2:04.30 finals time. Demi-Lee Carlisle took fourth in the 50-yard freestyle thanks to a 24.63 preliminary time and a 25.74 final heat time. Linnea Edgren placed fourth in the 100-yard IM with a 1:04.99 finals time.

The Dragon relay teams also put in a solid effort at the invitational. In the 800-yard freestyle, the team of Carlisle, Edgren, Cook and Lily Lengerich placed third in the event thanks to an 8:11.82 prelim time and a 8:31.67 finals time. Carlisle, Edgren, Cook and Johnson also placed third in the 400-yard medley relay clocking a finals time 4:17.52. MSUM also placed third in the 400-yard freestyle (3:50.05 finals) and second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.02 finals) and the 200-yard medley relays (1:53.69 finals). 

MSUM is back in the pool next weekend as they welcome Moorhead neighbors Concordia College to Nemzek Pool. That dual meet is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 21.
