FAYETTE, Iowa – Upper Iowa held MSU Moorhead scoreless for the final six minutes of the fourth quarter to secure a 74-59 win over the Dragons. MSUM shot just 34.9 percent from the field in the loss.
Upper Iowa would shoot 52.9 percent from the field in the first quarter to jump out early on the Dragons. While the Peacocks led 20-12 after one quarter, the Dragons shot just 27.8 percent in the frame, including a zero for nine mark from three-point range.
While MSUM would up their quarter field goal percentage to 37.5 percent in the second quarter, Upper Iowa would make three long range shots to stay in front. The Peacocks would shoot 41.7 percent from the field in the quarter to take a 36-27 lead into the locker room. MSUM would outrebound Upper Iowa 22-15 in the first half.
The Dragons would fight back in the second half in an attempt to cut the deficit. Both teams would trade punches in the third quarter with the Dragons hitting four threes to Upper Iowa's five long range makes. It was that additional three that helped the Peacocks stay in front, outscoring the Dragons 25-22 in the third quarter.
Upper Iowa would go on a 5-0 run in the fourth while simultaneously holding the Dragons scoreless for the final six minutes of play. That proved to be the big difference in the MSUM comeback attempt. The Peacocks won 74-59 while MSUM did not hold a lead the entire game. The Dragons shot 34.9 percent from the field and 23.1 percent from three for the game.
