Preview: MSUM Back at Home to Host Wildcats and Vikings

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team will host Wayne State College at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, then host Augustana University at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday this weekend. 
            
The Dragons are 6-5 on the regular season and 3-4 against NSIC opponents after falling to St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth last weekend. Sophomore Natalie Jens leads the team in points per game with 14.9, followed closely by junior Mariah McKeever with 14.3 points per game. McKeever and senior Peyton Boom lead the team in rebounds per game with seven apiece. Jens also leads the team in assists per game with 2.8. 

MSUM is still in the top three in the NSIC in total team defense, only surrendering 58.2 points to opposing teams. The Dragons also lead the conference in rebounding margin and are still in the top three in the NSIC in team rebounds per game. Opponents shoot just 37.7 percent from the field against the Dragons (top four mark in the league) while shooting only 24.7 percent from long range on average. That is the best mark in the NSIC.

At 1,220 points for her career, Peyton Boom is nine points shy of passing Megan Strese on MSUM's all-time scoring list. Boom is also closing in on cracking the top ten in school history in games played (110) and field goals made for her career (510).

About Wayne State 

The Wildcats are 9-3 on the regular season and 5-3 against NSIC opponents after defeating Upper Iowa University and falling to Augustana University last weekend. Senior Lauren Zacharias leads the team in points per game with 17.3. Zacharias also leads the Wildcats with 4.9 rebounds per game and 3 assists per game. Brent Pollari is in his fifth season as head coach at Wayne State. 

About Augustana 

The Vikings are 12-2 on the regular season and 6-2 against NSIC opponents after defeating Mount Marty University and Wayne State last weekend. Senior Aislinn Duffy leads the team in points per game with 15.2. Duffy also leads the Vikings with 8.3 rebounds per game and 4.9 assists per game. Senior Kenzie Rensch leads the team in steals per game with 3.2. Dave Krauth is in his 34th season as head coach at Augustana University.
