MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead soccer closed out their weekend with a 2-0 loss to St. Cloud State on a gorgeous day from Nemzek Soccer Field.
St. Cloud State would win the shot advantage in the first period as MSUM struggled against a very prepared Husky defense. MSUM would only muster one three total shots in the frame with a strike from
Lilly Johnson being the only shot on goal of the half for the Dragons. St. Cloud State would pepper in 14 shots in the half with six being on goal.
Simone Lewald would save five of those shots, but a dazzling effort from Brooke Quam helped the Huskies gain a 1-0 advantage in the 26th minute.
While MSUM would improve their shot number in the second half, they would only be able to put one on goal, a shot from
Brooklyn Broderick. The Dragons would register seven shots in the second half to St. Cloud State's nine attempts at the net. Lewald made a pair of saves in the final 45 minutes, but the Huskies would connect again in the 66th minute off the foot of Ana Spaine.
That goal would build a margin that the Dragons could not overcome as the Huskies would earn three conference points with a 2-0 win. Lewald would make seven saves in the match for MSUM.
