MARSHALL, Minn. – MSU Moorhead soccer concluded its 2023 road schedule with a 2-0 loss to Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday afternoon.
Offense was at a premium in the first 45 minutes as the Dragons and Mustangs combined for just six total shots. Each team had three shots each with
Mason Kimble registering a shot on goal in the 10
th minute.
Grace Heying and
Lilly Johnson would also have shots for MSUM in the half.
Southwest Minnesota State would put two shots on goal in the first half with one making it past
Simone Lewald. Brooke Wetterstrom would strike on SMSU's first shot attempt of the contest in the 23
rd minute. Through one frame, Southwest Minnesota State led 1-0 with Lewald saving one shot.
The Dragons would put a pair of shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Both
Tabea Czech and
Brooklyn Broderick had shots stopped by Mustang goalkeeper Rachel Hicks. In that same span, SMSU managed a shot on goal that was saved by Lewald. The senior would stop another shot in the 69
th minute, but Wetterstrom would strike again in the 73
rd to put the Mustangs up 2-0.
MSUM would manage six shots in the second half with none making it past Hicks. Southwest Minnesota State would hang on to a 2-0 victory. Lewald made four saves in the match, bringing her season total to 100.
