MOORHEAD, Minn -- MSU Moorhead swimming & diving took home 13 of 16 events in dual action against the University of Mary on Friday night. The Dragons defeated the Marauders 199-90 to open the 2023-24 season.
MSUM would command both relays in the dual with the Dragons taking the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays. The 200-yard team of
Lacie Stark,
Linnea Edgren,
Ruth Pavelski and
Demi-Lee Carlisle won the event with a time of 1:50.19. Pavelski dazzled in the race, clocking a 25.98 in the fly portion of the relay, which would have been a new Nemzek Pool record had it not been done in a relay format. The team of
Sophia Verke,
Maggie Moore, Pavelski and Carlisle won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 3:41.79.Â
Isabelle Johnson took both 1-meter and 3-meter diving as the sophomore would earn 191.25 points in 1-meter and 196.25 in 3-meter diving. Freshman
Zoe Bjerke would turn in a 188.80 score in 1-meter diving while
Ruth Guy would tally 177.55 in the 3-meter portion.Â
The freshman Verke would win the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.22, narrowly defeating teammate
Maggie Moore, who finished runner-up with a mark of 2:01.44.
Lacie Stark would win the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 27.94, finishing ahead of teammate
Kelsey Jackson, who clocked an even 28 seconds in the event. Jackson would win the 100-yard backstroke later in the dual with a time of 1:00.24, winning by nearly two seconds.Â
Pavelski would continue her strong debut performance with a victory in the 100-yard fly, registering an impressive 59.97, with the freshman being the only competitor to clock a sub-one minute time. The Sun Prairie, Wisc., native closed her day by winning the 50-yard fly as well with a time of 26.32, which was a tenth of a second off the Nemzek Pool record.Â
Cami Mayo would earn runner-up honors in the 500-yard and 1000-yard freestyles as the freshman clocked a 11:07.47 in the 1000-yard and a 5:32.37 in the 500-yard.
Demi-Lee Carlisle would own the short freestyle races, winning both the 50-yard and 100-yard events. The junior turned in a 25.24, finishing just ahead of teammate
Maggie Moore, who clocked a 25.25. Carlisle would win the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 55.66.Â
Linnea Edgren won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.41 while also winning the 200-yard IM, clocking a mark of 2:22.72.
