CLAREMORE, Okla -- MSU Moorhead women's basketball had 10th-ranked Central Missouri on the ropes late in the fourth quarter, but the Jennies would rally and take the game to overtime, besting the Dragons 63-57.
MSU Moorhead would grab an early 18-16 lead in the first quarter thanks to five early points from
Ashley Fritz on a three-pointer and a jumper.
Natalie Jens would chip in nine first quarter points as well with MSUM 46.1 percent from the floor in the frame including four free throws. The Jennies would be held to just a 37.5 percent mark in the first quarter.Â
The second quarter saw Central Missouri liven up on the offensive end as they would make seven of 14 shot attempts in the quarter. MSUM shot just above 30 percent from the period and were held to just four field goals before the half. Never the less, MSUM only trailed 32-29 at the break. The Dragons would surge out of the second half locker room, outscoring the Jennies 14-6 in the period behind six big points from freshman
Maya Metcalf. Central Missouri would only connect on three field goals in the frame as MSUM led 43-38 heading into the final quarter.Â
MSUM would continue to keep hold of the lead throughout the final frame before the Jennies made one final run. The Dragons lead would remain as large as five points with less than a minute remaining. However, Central Missouri would force some timely turnovers to even the game at 53 points. While the Jennies had a shot to win at the end of regulation, they could not connect on a game-winner. The contest went into overtime with the teams tied 53-53.
In the extra session, Central Missouri would quickly jump out to a six point lead and would eventually outscore MSUM 10-4. The Jennies would hang on for a grueling 63-57 victory.Â
