HOUGHTON, Mich. – MSU Moorhead completed its non-conference schedule with a stellar shooting performance against Michigan Tech. Four Dragons scored in double figures as MSUM moved to 6-0 with an 85-77 victory.
It is the first 6-0 start for the Dragons since the 2014-15 season which saw MSUM rattle off wins in each of its first 12 games. The Dragons led for all but 18 seconds of the contest on Sunday.
How The Game Was Won
- MSUM owned the first 20 minutes, shooting an electric 60.7 percent from the floor in the half. The Dragons drained three long range shots on six attempts as well to lead 47-29 at the break.
- The Dragons were stern defensively in the frame, holding Michigan Tech to just a 32.2 percent field goal mark. The Huskies also missed all nine of their three-point attempts.
- Jacob Beeninga scored 11 points in the half for MSUM while Logan Kinsey added in 10 points.
- The home team would shoot significantly better in the second half, converting on 45.9 percent of their shots and trimming the Dragon lead to as little as two points with just under six minutes remaining.
- Michigan Tech would remain cold from long range in the second half, making just two of seven attempts. The Huskies shot just 12.5 percent from three in the contest.
- MSUM would still be effective with their shots, making 52.1 percent of their attempts to remain in front throughout. Jamir Price led MSUM in the final 20 minutes with 11 points.
- The Dragons would stretch their lead back to nine points with under a minute left.
- Price finished the game shooting 87.5 percent from the floor with a three-point make.
- In total, the Dragons connected on 56.9 percent of their shot attempts in the game including a four of eight ledger from deep.
- Beeninga finished with 19 points, making the win his 10th consecutive game scoring in double figures dating back to February 2023. Brother Eddie Beeninga added in a career-high seven points in the game.
