MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead women's basketball nearly erased a 30-point halftime deficit on Saturday evening, but the Dragon comeback attempt fell just shy of completion. MSUM fell to visiting Mary, 68-63.
How It Materialized
- The Dragons trailed 48-18 at the halftime break as the Marauders would net 10 three-pointers in the first 20 minutes.Â
- MSUM shot just 21.8 percent from the field through one half, only converting on seven field goals in total through two periods.Â
- Coming out of the halftime locker room, MSUM would employ a full court press in an attempt to stifle the Mary offense. At one point early in the quarter, Mary led by 32 pointsÂ
- The press proved effective as MSUM outscored Mary 20-6 in the third quarter to bring the deficit to 16 with one quarter remaining. The Dragons forced eight Marauder turnovers in the stanza.Â
- MSUM scored 10 points off of those eight turnovers to give them needed momentum in the final 10 minutes.Â
- The Dragons would once again outscore Mary in the final 10 minutes (25-14), bringing the game as close as five points at the end.Â
- Freshmen Abby Berge and Karlee Fisher were instrumental on defense for MSUM, combining for four steals in the second half. Natalie Jens had six steals as well for the Dragons.
- While MSUM shot an improved 35.2 percent in the final 20 minutes, they would come up just shy with Mary nailing needed foul shots at the end.Â
- The Dragons shot 30 free throws in the game, but only converted on 20 of those opportunities.Â
- In the end, MSUM outscored Mary 45-20 in the second half. Mary only attempted 23 field goals in the half.Â
