MOORHEAD, Minn. – MSU Moorhead would trail by as much as seven points in the final 10 minutes of play on Saturday afternoon, but would nail crucial foul shots to move to 10-0 in a 65-64 win over St. Cloud State.
How The Game Was Won
- The Dragons came out in the first half and would build a 32-26 halftime lead on the Huskies.
- MSUM shot 42.4 percent in the first 20 minutes to St. Cloud State's 40 percent clip.
- The Dragons struggled from long range all afternoon, making just three of 12 attempts in the first half.
- In the second half, MSUM would continually drive to the rim and draw fouls, putting the Huskies in the bonus early in the half.
- Despite the foul issues, St. Cloud State would jump in front by as much as seven points with under 10 minutes remaining.
- The Dragons had an eight-point advantage early in the second half.
- Clutch free throws from Jacob Beeninga and Jamir Price would help whittle the Husky lead to one point.
- Logan Kinsey notched a needed and-one opportunity with under a minute remaining to again cut the lead to one point.
- St. Cloud State would miss a chance to score with less than 20 seconds to play.
- Price would drive the ball down the floor and get fouled with 15 seconds on the clock.
- The junior would nail two free throws to put the Dragons back in front 65-64.
- MSUM's defense, led by a great contest from Dane Zimmer, would hold firm in the closing seconds, not allowing a Husky basket and securing the win.
