WEST FARGO, N.D. – On the final day of the NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships, fabulous freshman
Madelynn Johnson landed on the podium for a second time while several more Dragons set new personal bests. Both of MSUM's relay teams competing today also set season-best times.
The Dragons finished the NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships with 97 points, finishing ninth as a team.
Molly Lenmark opened the day for the Dragons in the 100-yard freestyle. The sophomore swam a 59.87 in the event while
Lily Lengerich (55.44) and
Taylor Cook (54.64) also had strong showings in the same event. Cook came just under a half a second shy of her personal best and qualified for the C final.
Cook would set a new personal best in that C final, swimming a 54.04 which was .60 seconds better than her preliminary time. Her previous personal best was 54.24 set at this year's Rochester Invitational.
In the 200-yard backstroke,
Maggie Sullivan shaved nearly five seconds off of her season best time of 2:21.45 and finished the preliminaries with a time of 2:16.14. The mark became a new personal best for Sullivan.
Lacie Stark swam in the same event, clocking in a time of 2:17.31 which was just over a second shy of her collegiate best.
Arina Bratamidjaja swam a season-best time of 19:18.15 in the 1650-yard freestyle.
Madelynn Johnson swam in the 200-yard breaststroke preliminaries, putting in a time of 2:25.40. The mark was yet another personal best for the freshman, who has had a string of new lifetime bests this week. Johnson qualified for the A final in the event.
Linnea Edgren swam a season-best 2:35.06 in the preliminaries of the same event. The sophomore qualified for the C final in the event. Edgren would swim a 2:33.55 in the C final to improve on her time from preliminaries nearly two seconds
Johnson set a new personal record in the A final of the event. The freshman swam a 2:25.26 to improve her preliminary time by .14 seconds. Johnson capped her week with an eighth-place finish.
Cook, Edgren, Lengerich and
Demi-Lee Carlisle swam in the A final of the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team would place eighth in the A final, swimming a 3:38.84, improving their season best time by nearly one second.
Bratamidjaja, Lenmark, Sullivan and
Lacie Stark swam in the B final of the same event. The team swam a 3:52.35 to finish their season with a season best time, crushing their previous best almost eight seconds.
