MINOT, N.D. – MSU Moorhead would fall victim to poor shooting, turnovers and defensive struggles in a 74-54 loss to Minot State on Thursday night.
It was the Beavers who would begin the game with a flurry of offense. Minot State would take an 11-0 advantage within the first four minutes of play in the first quarter. Returning from an ankle injury that kept her off the floor last weekend,
Peyton Boom scored four early points to cut the Beaver lead in half. Boom would score eight points in the first quarter on a flawless four of four shooting.
Olivia Skibiel scored a three-pointer late in the quarter as the Dragons trailed 17-13 after one.
Minot State would go on a 14-2 run to open the second quarter, taking a commanding 31-15 lead midway through the quarter. The Dragons would cut into that lead slightly before halftime with the Beavers leading 34-21 at the break. MSUM would shoot just 29.4 percent in the first half.
MSUM would cut into the deficit in the third quarter, bringing the Beaver lead down to 10 points midway through the third period. Minot State would inflate that lead before the end of the quarter. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Beavers led 55-34.
The Dragons would put together a resilient fourth-quarter effort, trimming the Minot State lead to 11 points. However, it would not be enough as the Beavers took the game 74-54. MSUM shot 32.8 percent in the game.
