Dragons Conclude 2022-23 with Loss to CSP in NSIC First Round

MOORHEAD, Minn. – MSU Moorhead women's basketball concluded their 2022-23 season after falling to Concordia-St. Paul, 62-50, in the NSIC Women's Basketball Tournament First Round.

Scoring came at a bit of a premium in the first 10 minutes despite both teams shooting the ball rather well from the floor. Both teams made 40 percent of their shots in the first frame. However, neither team would attempt more than 10 field goals in the quarter. Through 10 minutes, the Golden Bears led 12-9.

Concordia-St. Paul would assert themselves early in the second quarter, building an eight-point lead, 19-11. Peyton Boom would pick up a crucial third foul midway through the frame to put the Dragons at a disadvantage. The Golden Bears held MSUM scoreless for nearly four minutes in the quarter and would piece together a 9-0 run in the same stretch. CSP would go on to shoot 57.9 percent from the field in the second quarter, outscoring MSUM 24-9. The Golden Bears would lead 36-18 at the break. Mariah McKeever led the Dragons with nine points.

MSUM would open the second half on an 8-0 run to pull the Dragons to within 10 points early in the quarter. The Dragons would bring it to within single figures late in the frame thanks to back-to-back baskets from McKeever. MSUM would outscore Concordia-St. Paul 15-6 in the third quarter to bring the score to 42-33 with one quarter remaining.

The Golden Bears would re-establish a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter before the Dragons made one final push. MSUM would cut the lead to as little as nine points, but it just would not be enough. CSP took the game 62-50.
