ROSEMONT, Ill. – In their final two-game stretch of the five-game Lewis Dome Invitational, MSU Moorhead softball split games with Truman State and Purdue Northwest today.
On the weekend, MSUM would go 3-2 over a five-game stretch to bring their record to 11-2.
Dragons 12, Bulldogs 7
NOTE: Box score/statistics will be updated with omitted MSUM run. The run omitted was an RBI double by Eliya Johnson in the top of the fourth inning.
Truman State would hit the scoreboard early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. MSUM would respond with a run in the top half of the second inning on an
Annika Norman single. The Dragons would score three more runs in the top of the third inning.
Lexie Wilson scored on a Bulldog error while a pair of doubles from
Eliya Johnson and
Azalya Lopez put MSUM up 4-2. In the fourth inning,
Mack Gallagher would single in another run for the Dragons, scoring
Ella Holiman with Johnson doubling in another run to make the score 6-2.
The Dragons would score two more runs in the top of the fifth inning behind and RBI single from Wilson and Lopez scoring on a throwing error. Truman State would respond with three runs of their own in the frame, bringing the score to 8-5 in favor of MSUM. The Bulldogs would pull closer after a sacrifice fly and an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to bring the score to 8-7.
Evey Evans would double to open the top half of the seventh to give the Dragons a runner in scoring position. Truman State would walk the next two MSUM batters to load the bases for
Eliya Johnson. The transfer worked out another base on balls to bring Evans in. Lopez would then single on the ensuing at-bat, giving the Dragons two more insurance runs. By the end of the inning, MSUM had tacked on another run, leading 12-7 heading into the final half inning.
Avery Steffen would slam the door shut on the Bulldogs, pitching a one-hit seventh inning to secure an 12-7 win for the Dragons.
Dragons 3, Pride 6
The Dragons hit the board first with
Mack Gallagher scoring on an error in the top of the first inning. Purdue Northwest would respond by scoring two runs on a passed ball and a solo home run. The Pride would continue to pour it on in the bottom of the third inning thanks to a grand slam off of
Evey Evans.
Annika Norman would get on base in the bottom of the sixth inning thanks to a fielder's choice. The play scored
Ella Holiman to bring the score to 6-2 in favor of the Pride. While Lexie Davis would double in the top of the seventh to score Evans, it would not be enough to overcome the grand slam. Purdue Northwest would take the game 6-3.

The Dragons (11-2) are off until their west coast swing in early March. MSUM will play next on March 8 in a doubleheader against Cal State East Bay in Hayward, Calif.
