MSUM Falls 7-0 to Mavs in Saint Peter

SAINT PETER, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead tennis opened their weekend with a loss to Minnesota State 7-0. Though the Dragons battled throughout singles action, the Mavericks proved to be too much on this evening.

MSUM fell to 5-8 on the season with the loss.

Mankato would sweep doubles play thanks to strong performances in the number one and number three matches. MSUM would battle in number two doubles thanks to the play of Shaelyn Johnson and Tia Dykema. However, the pair would eventually fall to Mankato's Chiara Carnelutti and Freia Lawrence, 6-4.

Johnson would continue to fight in number one singles, pushing Lois Page in the first set (6-3) before dropping the second set 6-1. Claire Nemmers found herself in a dogfight match in number five singles with Mankato's McKenna DeMarce. The true freshman lost a pair of tough sets to DeMarce (7-6, 6-4), but showed promise throughout. Madison Bell worked to a 6-4 result in her first set of number six singles, but eventually lost the second set and match 6-1.
