FARGO, N.D. – MSU Moorhead tennis completed their 2022-23 season after falling to Winona State 6-1 on Sunday morning from Courts Plus Community Fitness.
The Dragons complete the 2022-23 season with an 8-10 overall record. A win over the Warriors would have secured MSUM a spot in the NSIC Tournament. However, the Dragons are left on the outside looking in to conclude the season.
Winona State would command the doubles point thanks to a sweep of all three matches. The teams of
Shaelyn Johnson and
Tia Dykema as well as
Claire Nemmers and
Marissa Burian would battle, but both duos would fall 6-4.
In singles play,
Tia Dykema gathered the lone win for MSUM in the final competition of her career. Dykema, a sophomore, who plans to graduate early, defeated Winona State's Sara Anderson 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets. Dykema grabbed her seventh singles win of the year with the victory.
Madison Bell would close out the day for MSUM in number six singles in hopes of grabbing an extra team point. Bell fell to Ally Burger in the first set 6-3, but would rally for a 7-5 win in set two. Burger would narrowly escape with a 10-6 win in the final set.
