ROCHESTER, Minn. – MSU Moorhead concluded its historic 2023 season on Thursday afternoon as the Dragons fell to St. Cloud State at the NSIC Tournament.
The game completes a season where the Dragons collected the program's most wins since 2007. MSUM set single-season team records in runs, runs batted in and on-base percentage.
The Dragons and Huskies would trade haymakers early in the games as St. Cloud State would get on the board in the first inning with a three-run home run on MSUM starter
Avery Steffen.
Azalya Lopez and
Annika Norman would find base in the next half inning as Steffen would come up to bat. The sophomore would crank a pitch to center field and over the fence to score herself, Lopez and Norman. Steffen's dinger would knot the game at three runs apiece.
St. Cloud State would break that tie in the third inning with a solo home run to carry a 4-3 lead into the fourth inning. The Huskies would tack on an additional three runs in the bottom of the fourth on
Evey Evans to take 7-3 lead into the latter stages of the game. The Huskies would put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to finish with an 11-3 final.
MSUM finishes its season at 30-16, a 22-win improvement from 2022.
