ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead volleyball competed with sixth-ranked St. Cloud State on Friday evening, but the nationally-ranked Huskies proved too powerful for the Dragons. St. Cloud State took home a 3-0 win over MSUM.
The Huskies would open up the first set by building a four-point lead over the Dragons (11-7). However, back-to-back kills from
Raiah Mandell helped MSUM tie the set at 11 points apiece. An additional kill from
Maci Martini and a pair of service aces from
Emily Ramsay gave the Dragons a two-point advantage midway through the set. MSUM would hold onto that lead as the set progressed before the Huskies went on a 6-0 run to take a commanding 22-18 lead. While the Dragons would come as close as three points, St. Cloud State scored back-to-back points to take the set 25-20.Â
St. Cloud State would own the second set, beginning the frame on a 10-2 run to earn a comfortable lead. The Huskies would go on another 10-2 run later in the set to push their lead to 21-7. MSUM would only come as close as 14 points in the remainder of the set as the Huskies would win the set 25-11. The Dragons hit for a -.033 percentage in the set with eight errors.Â
The Huskies would continue to command the pace of the match in the third set as St. Cloud State would jump in front 9-2 to begin the frame. This time, MSUM would respond with a 5-0 run of their own thanks to a kill from
Jadyn Feist and three Husky attack errors. Yet, St. Cloud State would continue to be on the offensive, despite the Dragon run. St. Cloud State bounced back with a 7-1 run to pull in front 19-10. The Huskies would make it to match point, leading MSUM 24-14, before the Dragons went on a 5-0 run with kills from Feist,
Tori Thompson and
Bridget Witzmann. That burst pulled the score to 24-19 in favor of the Huskies before St. Cloud State closed down the match with a kill.Â
