BISMARCK, N.D. – MSU Moorhead soccer was able to put four shots on goal, but none found net as an 18th minute goal by Mary proved to be the difference maker in a non-conference Labor Day match.
The Marauders would hold the advantage for most of the first 45 minutes as MSUM was only able to muster one shot on goal in the half.
Brooklyn Broderick attempted a shot from the left wing in the 19
th minute which was saved by Mary keeper Molly Fischer. This came following a Marauder goal from Mo Malone in the 18th
minute as Mary held an early 1-0 lead.
By half's end, Mary had attempted a total of eight shots with five being recorded on goal. Dragon goalkeeper
Quinn Carter made four saves in the first half for MSUM. The Dragons would also rack up seven fouls in the first 45 minutes with three of those fouls leading to Mary freekick shots with one being on goal.
Tabea Czech would register a long shot on goal for the Dragons early in the second half (49th minute) which forced a save from Fischer.
Lilly Johnson would come close to the equalizing goal in the 56th minute as the sophomore would take a shot from inside the Mary box which would find the left side of the goal but would ultimately be stopped.
Ava Kieser would put another shot on for the Dragons in the 71st minute that missed to the right. Czech would notch her second shot on goal of the day in the 75th minute from the top of the box which was again saved by Fischer.
The Marauders would keep hold of their 1-0 lead as the Dragons did not get another shot off in the second half. Mary finished the contest with a total of 16 shots (eight on goal) to MSUM's five (four on goal). In the loss, MSUM's
Quinn Carter had seven saves.
