SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – MSU Moorhead's
Logan Kinsey and
Gabe Myren combined for 40 points as the duo helped jump start a second half run to push the second-ranked Dragons over Augustana, 83-74.
With the win, MSUM moves to 13-0 on the season having won each of their first seven NSIC contests. The Dragons also moved their record inside the Sanford Pentagon to 19-8 since the facility opened in 2013.
How The Game Was Won
- Augustana commanded the first 20 minutes, leading 43-41 at the break behind a blazing 56.3 percent field goal percentage. The Vikings largest lead of the half was seven points (24-17)
- MSUM would shoot a respectable 45.2 percent from the floor in the same stretch, but would surrender seven second chance points to the Vikings, who retained the lead.
- Both teams struggled from long distance in the first half, as Augie went zero for three to MSUM's three for 11 mark.
- Gabe Myren paced the Dragon effort in the half, scoring 11 points.
- The Dragons would surge in the first 10 minutes of the second half, outscoring Augie 24-14 by the eight-minute mark in the frame.
- MSUM's defense was stingy following Augie's successful first half, holding the Vikings to just seven of 24 shooting to that point in the final frame.
- On the other end, MSUM would connect on 55 percent of their shot attempts, led by Logan Kinsey, who scored 11 points through 14 minutes of play in the half.
- Kinsey and Myren would continue to lead the Dragons offensively, helping them hold on to the lead throughout the half despite a late Augie run.
- MSUM connected on 21 of 23 free throws for a 91.3 percent clip from the charity stripe.
- Kinsey and Myren combined for 40 of MSUM's 83 points including an incredible 64 percent combined field goal percentage (16-25).
- Kinsey tied his career high for points, which he set just a few weeks ago against Minot State.
