WAYNE, Neb. – MSU Moorhead had three true freshmen score in double figures as the Dragons picked up their third straight win, defeating Wayne State College 64-49 on Saturday.
For the Dragons, it is the sixth win in the last seven games against the Wildcats.

Abby Berge combined to score 39 points for MSUM in the win.
How The Game Was Won
- The Wildcats would begin the first quarter shooting just one of six from the floor. On the other end, Maya Metcalf notched a pair of three-pointers to give the Dragons an early advantage.
- Neither team would find their offensive groove in the first 10 minutes as the squads combined to shoot five of 26 (19.2 percent) for the period.
- Nevertheless, MSUM was tied with Wayne State after one quarter (8-8) despite turning the ball over eight times.
- The Dragons would jump in front by six early in the second period behind four points from Terryn Johnson and another jumper from Metcalf.
- MSUM shot an improved percentage in the second frame, making seven of 13 attempts to carry a 27-22 halftime lead.
- Ashley Fritz nailed a three-pointer with under 10 seconds remaining to give the Dragons the five-point lead. Fritz scored seven points in the first half.
- Maya Metcalf led the Dragons with eight points as fellow frosh Abby Berge added in six points. Metcalf, Berge and Fritz combined to shoot eight of 10 from the floor through 20 minutes.
- Terryn Johnson chipped in six points, including four of four made free throw attempts.
- Wayne State held MSUM scoreless for nearly five minutes to begin the third quarter, but could only bring the count to within one point (27-26) before the Dragons broke the drought.
- Berge would score four straight points for MSUM to keep the Dragons in front, 31-28, midway through the period.
- The freshman would score six points in the third quarter, coupled with another Fritz three, to keep the Dragons in front, 40-36, after three periods.
- Wayne State only attempted seven field goals in the frame but connected on six free throw attempts.
- Former Wayne Stater Ashley Gustavson would net a triple on her former squad with just over seven minutes remaining to keep the Dragons in front by five points.
- Metcalf would follow suit with her third long range shot of the game, giving MSUM its largest lead of the game to that point (51-41).
- MSUM shot 54.5 percent from the field in the final 10 minutes to pull away as Wayne State shot just 25 percent in the final quarter. The Dragons finished the game on a 25-9 run.
- The freshmen trio of Metcalf, Fritz and Berge combined to score 39 points, making 14 of 22 (63.6 percent) of their field goals between them.
- MSUM held a plus-seven rebound advantage (36-29) in the game.
