MSUM Blanked by Huskies, 4-0

ST. CLOUD, Minn. –  MSU Moorhead soccer fell in NSIC action to St. Cloud State on Friday evening, 4-0.

Neither team would see much offense as the first 20 minutes saw the teams feeling one another out. After a Dragon clearance just ahead of the 21st minute, St. Cloud State worked to the middle of the field as Izzy Halunen delivered a near perfect through ball to teammate Ellie Primerano.

The junior would streak forward with nothing but green in front. While the Dragons would cut Primerano off, she would make a nice move to get by a charging Quinn Carter. The result was a Husky goal. The one goal lead would not stand for long as St. Cloud State continued to possess in MSUM's half of the field. An errant kick guided the Huskies back towards midfield, but Grace Olson opted to take a deep shot from roughly 35 yards away from the net. The ensuing strike hit Carter's hands but had the speed behind it to end up in net. Through 27 minutes, St. Cloud State led, 2-0.

The Huskies would have another chance late in the first half as they would play another nice through ball which found the foot of Linsey Trapino. The sophomore fired a swift shot that went high. Carter would hit the ball up just enough to see it ricochet off the top crossbar and stay out of the net. After one half, St. Cloud State led 2-0 with only six total shots in the first 45 minutes.

Carter would begin the second half making a pair of saves to keep the score at 2-0 in favor of the Huskies. Neither team would get a shot off until the 79th minutes when St. Cloud State again placed a nice ball to Gabby Zugel. She would shoot a low shot that passed Carter for the Huskies third goal of the match. St. Cloud State would score again in the 82nd minute to make the count 4-0. That score would hold firm through 90 minutes.
