MSUM Falls in Physical Bout to Wayne State, 3-0

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead fell in a physical NSIC match with Wayne State on Friday afternoon. The Wildcats used two first-half goals en route to a 3-0 victory over the Dragons.

Wayne State would quickly pepper in shots through the first 10 minutes with none of those attempts finding the goal. The Wildcats would finally connect on their first shot on goal in the 10th minute as Paige Pemberton would work in a cross that found the foot of Alaina Sorenson for Wayne State's first goal of the contest. Shorty thereafter, Wayne State would continue to fire shots on goal, but Dragon keeper Quinn Carter would stall both marks to keep the Wildcat lead at one goal.

Just ahead of the 15th minute, Wayne State would earn a freekick from just beyond the midfield line. Defender Erin Peters would boot a pretty ball into the box with the kick bouncing once before meeting the head of Riann Daas who angled the ball right to the foot of Pemberton, who pushed it past Carter for another Wildcat goal. MSUM would have their first shot on goal just before the 24th minute as Kraly Walker would get off a shot that was saved by Wildcat keeper Sidney Truman. Throughout the remainder of the first half, both teams would only register one shot on goal between them on a Wildat strike in the 34th minute. Carter would save the shot as Wayne State led 2-0 at half.

The beginning of the first half would see Wayne State continue their offensive pace as Sorenson would score again in the 48th minute. Sorenson would steal away an errant ball and have a one-on-one opportunity with Carter, which she put away. With 40 minutes to play, Wayne State led 3-0. Carter would save a pair of shots throughout the rest of the contest as the Dragons would have their best opportunity just before time ran out. Lilly Johnson would take away a ball and find herself all alone with Truman. The Wildcat keeper would stall a low shot from Johnson to preserve her clean sheet. In the end, Wayne State would win behind the 3-0 advantage.

In the match, Carter and Sara Alfrida Munk Nielsen played the full 90 minutes for MSUM.
