MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead swimming & diving earned their fourth straight dual victory on Saturday afternoon. The Dragons took home 10 of 16 events to defeat Southwest Minnesota State, 170-129.
Zoe Bjerke would lead MSUM in 1-meter diving, winning the event to open the dual with an overall score of 230.5 while
Isabelle Johnson would come in second with a score of 218.15. The Dragons would take the top four places in the event as
Ruth Guy (193.60) and
Berit Gustafson (184.05) would place third and fourth respectively. In 3-meter competition, Johnson won the event with a score of 239.15, which is the third-best six-dive score in school history. Bjerke would finish runner-up with a score of 220.10, now the fifth-highest six-dive score in program history. Guy (189.05) and Gustafson (160.95) would help the Dragons sweep the top four positions as well.
In relay competition, the Dragon team of
Demi-Lee Carlisle,
Rose Urick,
Ruth Pavelski and
Sophia Verke would win the 200-yard medley with a time of 1:50.21 to win by nearly four seconds. The team of
Lacie Stark,
Iris Diaz,
Fernanda Leon and
Joanna Phillips would grab more team points for MSUM, placing third with a mark of 1:55.18. To close the meet, the team of Pavelski, Carlisle, Verke and
Maggie Moore would clock a race win in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:37.41. MSUM's squad of Stark, Phillips,
Lily Lengerich and
Taylor Cook would place third in the same race with a time of 3:51.59.
Cami Mayo would earn a runner-up spot in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:27.79. The sophomore would also finish runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 5:36.09.
Kelsey Jackson would earn a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100-yard (1:00.39) and 200-yard backstrokes (2:15.34). Carlisle would finish third in the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 1:00.42. Urick would grab two runner-up finishes in the 100-yard (1:09.56) and 200-yard (2:33.59) breaststrokes.
In freestyle sprints, MSUM truly stamped their mark on the dual as a whole. Moore won the 200-yard freestyle with a blistering mark of 1:58.9 while Verke would win the 50-yard free with a 24.82 time. Moore (25.45) would place runner-up in the same race. Verke (53.62) and Moore (54.36) would also claim the top two spots in the 100-yard freestyle for the Dragons.
Leon and Pavelski would help the Dragons dominate the fly races as Leon claimed three event wins overall on the day. Leon clocked a 2:06.47 to win the 200-yard fly while Pavelski was runner-up at 2:26.69. In the 100-yard fly, Leon was again the winner with a time of 58.14, which comes in as the seventh-fastest mark in program history. Pavelski would finish runner-up behind a time of 1:00.37. To cap the day, Leon would cruise to a win in the 200-yard IM, touching the wall at 2:11.15, which was nearly eight seconds better than the second-place finisher.
