MSUM Swim & Dive Hosts Jimmies on Saturday

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead swimming & diving will wrap their long stretch of home meets on Saturday in a dual with the University of Jamestown. Events are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. inside Nemzek Pool. 

Live video will be available at msumdragons.com. MSUM last competed on November 9 in a 128-114 dual win over Concordia, St. Paul.

Isabelle Johnson would lead the Dragons in diving throughout the meet, placing runner-up in both 1-meter and 3-meter competition. Johnson scored a 216.80 in 1-meter and 225.95 in 3-meter. Zoe Bjerke earned a pair of third place marks with scores of 206.40 (1-meter) and 209.20 (3-meter). Ruth Guy placed fifth in both events with marks of 185.70 (1-meter) and 185.45 (3-meter).

MSUM would win the 400-yard medley relay for valued team points as the squad of Kelsey JacksonRose UrickFernanda Leon and Sophia Verke would clock a 4:03.54. Leon and Verke were particularly speedy in the back half of the race clocking 59.11 (Leon) and 53.39 (Verke). The Dragon team of Lacie StarkIris DiazRuth Pavelski and Joanna Phillips were right behind at 4:13.04. Pavelski was swift in her fly portion, marking a 59.31 split. In the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, MSUM's squad of Verke, Pavelski, Demi-Lee Carlisle and Maggie Moore won with a time of 3:38.36. Verke anchored with a 53.15 in the final 100 yards. 

Cami Mayo had a strong day in distance swimming, earning a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle. Mayo grabbed the win with a time of 11:25.52 while teammate Taylor Cook placed third with a mark of 11:46.27. Mayo was runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:36.05 while Cook placed fourth at 5:40.87. Maggie Moore would turn in another strong showing, winning the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.15. Moore also placed runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 1:59.06. 

Verke and Carlisle would finish first and second respectively in the 50-yard freestyle. The sophomore Verke (25.04) narrowly edged Carlisle, who finished at 25.06. Lily Lengerich would turn in a 26.60 to place fifth in the same event. Carlisle would be runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.80 while teammate Kelsey Jackson was right behind Carlisle at 1:00.98. 

Leon would collect another pair of event wins in the 400-yard IM and the 100-yard fly. The true freshman dominated the individual medley, winning behind a time of 4:38.91, almost 16 seconds faster than the runner-up. The time is now the fourth-fastest 400-yard IM in program history. Leon would swim a 58.80 in the 100-yard fly to win while Pavelski placed runner-up with a time of 1:00.60.
