MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead swimming & diving is 6-0 in dual competition after the Dragons collected a convincing win over the University of Jamestown on Saturday. MSUM defeated the Jimmies, 208-75, winning 15 of 16 events.
The Dragon divers would see a stellar showing across 1-meter and 3-meter competition.
Isabelle Johnson swept both events, winning 1-meter behind a score of 241.2 and a 3-meter score of 240.6. Both scores were personal bests for Johnson with her 3-meter score being the third-best in school history.
Zoe Bjerke would finish runner-up in both events with scores of 228 (1-meter) and 232.35 (3-Meter).
Ruth Guy earned a fourth-place mark in 1-meter with a score of 194.7. Guy placed third in 3-meter behind a score of 192.2.
In relay action, MSUM's team of
Lacie Stark,
Rose Urick,
Ruth Pavelski and
Sophia Verke claimed a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a mark of 1:50.57. Verke anchored with a 24.24 split to assure victory for the Dragons. The team of
Kelsey Jackson,
Iris Diaz,
Taylor Cook and
Joanna Phillips would place third with a time of 1:58.29. In the meet's final event, MSUM's 200-yard freestyle team of
Maggie Moore,
Lily Lengerich,
Fernanda Leon and Phillips would earn a victory with a time of 1:43.8. MSUM's squad of Cook, Stark,
Cami Mayo and
Haley Stainbrook would finish runner-up with a time of 1:45.64.
Mayo owned both distance races on Saturday afternoon, winning the 1650-yard freestyle with a mark of 19:08.5. The sophomore won again in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 5:41.6. Cook would finish runner-up to Mayo with a finishing time of 5:54.3.
Maggie Moore would collect three more event wins for the Dragons, earning victory in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.61), the 50-yard freestyle (25.54) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.79). Verke would earn a runner-up finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 25.86. Phillips would place third in the same race, touching the wall at 25.95, while also placing fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (56.52).
Leon would enjoy another superb day for the Dragons, winning both the 100-yard fly (58.34) and 50-yard fly (26.86). The freshman's time in the 50-yard fly marks the fourth-fastest in program history. The time was also nearly .6 seconds away from a Nemzek Pool record as well. Leon also finished runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.99. Pavelski placed runner-up to Leon in the 100-yard fly with a time of 59.83, while also earning third in the 100-yard freestyle (55.87).
Verke would not be shut out from event wins either, claiming victory in both the 50-yard backstroke (27.9) and the 100-yard IM (1:02.29). The sophomore's times are both the ninth-fastest in program history. Stark (28.3) and Jackson (28.86) would finish second and third respectively in the 50-yard backstroke for the Dragons. Jackson also earned a runner-up finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.65. In the 100-yard IM, Pavelski placed runner-up behind a time of 1:03.16.
Rounding out the Dragon efforts was freshman
Rose Urick, who picked up event wins in both breaststroke races. Urick swam a 1:10.42 to win the 100-yard breaststroke before clocking a 32.14 to win the 50-yard breaststroke.
Iris Diaz would place runner-up in the 50-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 34.18.
