Road Trips to St. Cloud, Bemidji Await MSUM

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead women's basketball will put its four-game winning streak on the line this weekend in a pair of NSIC matchups. The Dragons take on St. Cloud State on Friday at 5:30 p.m. before traveling to Bemidji for a tilt with the BSU Beavers on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Live stats and video will be available at msumdragons.com. Fans can listen to the game against the Beavers on AM 1100/FM 92.3 with 'Big Game' James McCarty on the call.

Matchup History...The Dragons have claimed the previous two meetings with the Huskies, most recently on December 9, 2023. MSUM defeated St. Cloud State, 57-48. The teams have split the last four games with St. Cloud State winning four of the last seven matchups. Prior to that, MSUM held a seven-game win streak over the Huskies from February 2016 until February 2019. Against the Beavers, MSUM has won four of the last five meetings. However, the Beavers have the most recent victory in the longtime series. Bemidji State defeated the Dragons, 65-54 in Bemidji on February 3, 2024.

Last Time Out...MSUM secured its fourth consecutive win against Mary on Saturday. The Dragons commanded the contest throughout, winning 65-43. Natalie Jens led the Dragons with 17 points and eight rebounds. On Thursday, MSUM rallied back to defeat Northern State in overtime (73-70) with Ashton Safranski scoring a career-high 18 points.

Srejm-YAHH...In Saturday's win over the Marauders, junior post Emily Srejma was one of MSUM's most consistent offensive weapons. Srejma scored eight points in six minutes played in the first half on Saturday, finishing the game with 10 points. The junior connected on five of six shot attempts in the victory with all five being long, midrange jumpers. Srejma was lethal in the pick and roll all afternoon, providing timely offense for the Dragons. She also secured three rebounds and a blocked shot in the MSUM win.

Frosh Trending...Freshman point guard Ashton Safranski has seen an uptick in her output since entering the starting lineup. Safranski posted a career-high 18 points against Northern State on Thursday, including three long range shots. The Fargo, N.D., native rallied the Dragons late to push the game into overtime. Safranski scored seven points and had seven rebounds against Mary on Saturday. The freshman's defensive prowess cannot go unnoticed as well, as she would have five total steals in the two Dragon victories.

Still Shining...For the second straight week, MSUM had a student-athlete named to the NSIC 'Shining Five' as senior guard Natalie Jens was tabbed. Jens averaged 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in a pair of Dragon wins. She scored 15 points against Northern State on Thursday before pouring in 17 points against Mary. Jens also secured eight rebounds, four assists and two steals against the Marauders. Junior post Terryn Johnson was named to the NSIC 'Shining Five' last week.

Overtime Success...MSUM won a hard-fought matchup with Northern State on Thursday, taking the contest into overtime. The Dragons trailed by as many as eight points in the final quarter, but were still able to claw their way back to victory. The Dragons are a perfect 3-0 against the Wolves in overtime games, having won free basketball over the Wolves on December 18, 2017 (64-61) and February 4, 2006 (61-52).

Quick Scout...The Huskies distribute the ball extremely well, holding the NSIC's top assist to turnover ratio (1.15). SCSU will rely on junior guard Jada Eggebrecht, who scores 15.1 points per game. BSU's top three scorers convert at an efficient clip with all three shooting over 43 percent from the field.

Karla Nelson is in her 25th season as MSUM's head women's basketball coach.
