Okay, Rook! Johnson Helps Pace MSUM to Victory in Dragon Debut

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Sixth-ranked MSU Moorhead men's basketball was led by an eye-opening performance from freshman guard Carson Johnson in his Dragon debut. MSUM toppled Minnesota Crookston, 90-64, on Saturday evening. 

Inside The Game
  • MSUM would begin the game on an 18-2 run behind seven early points from Carson Johnson. Logan Kinsey would add in five points during the stretch. 
  • The Dragons would hold an advantage of 18 points with under 10 minutes to play after a three-pointer from Eddie Beeninga
  • Johnson would hit another triple for MSUM to keep the Dragons up by 21 points (32-11).
  • Beeninga would bury another pair of threes down the stretch in the first half, ballooning the Dragon lead to 29 points before the break. 
  • MSUM led 49-23 at halftime as Johnson scored 13 points and Beeninga scored 11 with three triples. 
  • Shaun Wysocki would score the first four points of the second half for MSUM, keeping the Dragons in front by 26 points. 
  • The Dragon lead would be stretched past 30 points five minutes into the second half after free throw makes from Adam Jenkins
  • Johnson and Beeninga would connect on another pair of threes as MSUM led 67-36. 
  • The freshman Johnson would finish the game with 22 points in his Dragon debut, shooting 50 percent from both the field and three-point range. 
  • Beeninga wrapped the contest with a career-high 16 points, draining four of six long range shots. 
  • MSUM connected on 51 percent of their shot attempts, sinking nine of 16 three-point attempts. 
  • The Dragons would not trail for the entire game, winning handily, 90-64.
