Opening TipÂ
Quick Hits...MSUM defeated Wayne State on January 6 in a 64-49 affair. The Dragons have also won six of their last seven competitions against the Wildcats dating back to February 5, 2016. The Dragons also defeated Augie earlier this year in a 63-60 win inside the Sanford Pentagon. Natalie Jens converted on the game-winning lay-up and would net 29 points for MSUM.
A Barrage Of Ratz...Sophomore guard Tori Ratz showcased just how lethal of a player she can be in Thursday's win over Minot State. Ratz came off the bench and scored 12 points in the fourth quarter alone, a new career high. All 12 points for Ratz came on three-point makes as the Fergus Falls, Minn., product would nail all four of her attempts from the left wing inside Nemzek Fieldhouse. Ratz connected on 433 career three-pointers at Fergus Falls High School with 1,771 career points. Prior to her outburst on Thursday, Ratz's previous career high was three points set on numerous occasions over the past two seasons.Â
Take A Bow...MSUM will honor its three seniors on Saturday following the game with Augustana. Graduate students Olivia Skibiel and Ashley Gustavson will be recognized alongside senior Sarah Kingland. Skibiel came to MSUM following a stint at North Dakota State and has started in 51 consecutive games entering the weekend. Gustavson is in her first year as a Dragon after transferring from Wayne State College. Gustavson has been a consistently reliable piece for MSUM this season with her top performance coming against Winona State on January 26 when she scored 13 points. Kingland has played in 42 career games for the Dragons over three years.
Fisher Finding A Way...Freshman guard Karlee Fisher continues to find ways to score following another great output against Minot State on Thursday. Fisher scored 13 points on five of seven shooting including a perfect two of two clip from long range. The performance is Fisher's fourth double figure scoring outcome of the season.
Battle On The Boards...Leading up to Saturday's contest against the Vikings, MSUM is looking at an intriguing matchup between two of the best rebounders in the NSIC. Both Terryn Johnson and Augie's Jennifer Aadland are second in the conference in rebounds per game with eight. Nearing the end of the regular season, the Dragons are still the top rebounding team in the conference, snaring 41.4 per game and a plus-four margin.Â
The Quest For A Grand...Junior guard Natalie Jens continues to inch closer to her 1,000th career point for MSUM. Entering the weekend, Jens has 921 career points as a member of the Dragons. She is also 26 points away from setting a new single-season career best in total points scored. Her previous best was 361 points scored last season.Â
What They Do Well...Wayne State is exceptional at forcing turnovers as the opposition is averaging 16.9 against the Wildcats this season. Wayne State bolsters the third-best turnover margin in the NSIC behind St. Cloud State and Minnesota State. Augustana features the dynamic scoring duo of Michaela Jewett and Lauren Sees, who combine to score 28.9 points per game for the Vikings. Both Jewett and Sees are in the top 11 in the NSIC in scoring per game this season.
Karla Nelson is in her 24th season at the helm of MSUM women's basketball.Â
