Dragons Complete Lewis Dome Tournament 3-3

ROSEMONT, Ill. – MSU Moorhead softball split another pair of games on Saturday afternoon as the Dragons closed the Lewis Dome Tournament with a 3-3 record.

MSUM would win game one over Truman State, 11-3, in six innings. To close the tournament, the Dragons fell to Upper Iowa, 6-4.

Dragons 11, Bulldogs 3

It was the Bulldogs who would open the game on a hot streak the plate, rattling starter Azalya Lopez in the first inning. Truman State would bring around three runs in the top of the inning behind an RBI double and single. MSUM would be silenced in the home half of the frame as Lopez settled in the following inning. After putting runners in scoring position, Lopez would get out of the jam to keep the deficit at three runs.

Sam Centeno would earn the first Dragon hit in the bottom of the second. However, MSUM would remain off the scoreboard until the bottom of the fifth inning. Lizzy Davis would earn a one out single to give MSUM a baserunner. In the following at-bat, Lopez stepped up and crushed a momentum-shifting two-run tater to make the score 3-2. Evey Evans would keep the Truman State advantage at one run with a scoreless sixth.

The Dragons would absolutely explode in the home half of the sixth which began with a leadoff double from Eliya Johnson. Olivia Goderis would work out a walk to put two runners on for MSUM. Johnson would eventually score on a wild pitch before Annika Norman brought home a run on a fielder's choice. For the first time, MSUM led 4-3.

MSUM was not finished, however, as Davis would single again followed by a Lopez single which drove in two more runs. Mack Gallagher would load the bases on a single with still one out. Johnson would bring in a run after being hit by a pitch as the Bulldogs would surrender another run on a bases loaded walk in the next at-bat. Leading 9-3, Centeno concluded the game with a two RBI single to put MSUM up by eight runs. The hit from the freshman invoked the run rule in favor of MSUM.

Dragons 4, Peacocks 6

Full box score to be provided when available.

Like game one, the Dragons would surrender three runs in the first inning on starter Teagan Clemmons. MSUM would not be able to put any runs on the board until the top of the fifth. Olivia Goderis drove in two runs in the game while Evey Evans and Lizzy Davis would drive in runs before the game's completion. The Peacocks plated three more runs across the third and fourth innings to lead 6-2 in the final inning. While Upper Iowa would surrender two runs in the top of the seventh, they would still hold on for a 6-4 win.
